Lighthouse Group History

1990

The Lighthouse Insurance Agency was formed in Holland, Michigan. The focus on service along with the personalized service and attention devoted to their customers was a key to the growth of the agency.

1995

The Keuning Agency, which started in Holland in 1960, joined Lighthouse Insurance Agency to form the Lighthouse-Keuning Insurance Group.

1998

The Lighthouse Insurance Group continued to grow and expand with the purchase of Waalkes Agency in Grand Rapids and VanderMolen Insurance Agency in Grand Haven.

1999

Expansion continued into the Muskegon area with the purchase of Austin-Powell-Lankes Agency and January 1, 2001 with the purchase of Borgman Agency.

Named Holland Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year and went on to win State Small Business of the Year, recognized in Washington D.C.

2001

The agency took the opportunity to expand their insurance lines, and started Lighthouse Title, Inc. in Holland, MI in April, which handles the title insurance line of products. Lighthouse Title expanded to the Grand Haven and Grand Rapids markets in July.

2002

Lighthouse Title expanded with a Grandville office in April.

2003

Lighthouse Group continued growth... the insurance agency acquired Cascade Insurance Agency in Kentwood and in July, Grubbs Insurance Agency.

Lighthouse Title acquired the Keystone Title Agency in Grand Rapids in March and merged their two Grand Rapids locations into one. Lighthouse Title opened a Muskegon office and a Douglas office in the summer of 2003

2004

In January, Lighthouse Title acquired Lakeshore Land and Title with offices in Ludington, Manistee and Baldwin.

Lighthouse Insurance opened a new Kentwood office in April and Wolbrink-Lievense Insurance Services joined Lighthouse Insurance Group.

Lighthouse Title acquired Mason County assets of Chicago Title and merged their personnel and files into the Ludington - Lakeshore Land and Title office.

2005

Lighthouse Title partnered with IBT Title to form a joint venture office in Fremont called LTi Title Agency, a first in the state where two competing title agencies partnered together in the launching of a new market. Lighthouse is the managing member.

Lighthouse Insurance opened a branch in Kalamazoo and Detour Village.

2006

In the Spring, Lighthouse Title also entered the Kalamazoo, Newaygo and Norton Shores markets. While adding a second Holland location in Downtown.

Lighthouse Insurance opened a branch in Traverse City.

In October, Lighthouse Title purchased the Harbor Title Agency, which had offices in Muskegon, Grand Haven and Ludington. The teams in these markets were merged with the Lighthouse offices, creating a stronger market presence in all three locations.

2007

Lighthouse Insurance opened a location in Empire, Michigan

Lighthouse Title was ranked in the Top 500 of Entrepreneur Magazine’s fastest growing companies in America!.

Lighthouse Title purchases Professional Abstract & Title in Sturgis and Priority Title in Grandville/Grand Rapids

Lighthouse Title awarded Affiliate of the Year from WMLAR (West Michigan Lakeshore Association of Realtors) in Holland
